Cheyenne was born March 12th 2007 to a liter of eight other puppy’s. And of course she was the runt of them all. From the time she was born she was a wanderer, mom could never keep her tucked in.

Changes in Cheyenne After her 1st day of birth we noticed her to be going down hill, she was losing strength, and we often found her cold, and pushed a way from the dinner table. So I began to feed her my self. I went to the Vets office and got some milk replacer and a puppy bottle, after the first feeding I soon learned she had and attitude and defiantly didn’t like this bottle!
What was we to do? I tried an eye dropper that was worse…so I went to the store and got her a regular baby bottle and this one worked she LOVED it…she was hooked…
Does she come with Diapers? As for us it was just like having a real baby all over again the night feedings, taking her every where we went – We where calving heifers at the time so I put her in a little box with a heating pad and off we went. She was a pretty good conversation starter. We even took her to rodeos, it was so cute every one would come see what we had in the baby blanket. She stole every one hearts.
Whow two Moms! I still tried to get her to mingle with the other puppy’s but that was sort of hard, she wanted them but they weren’t sure of her, mom treated her just fine she licked and cared for her just as her own which she was, I was just helping her out…
Picking out her name was not hard, I had often said the next dog we got I was going to name Cheyenne if it was a female…so after waiting for just about a month, my husband and I where watching a little TV and he ask when I was going to name her? I told him I was scared to name her, I was still afraid she would die. He says it has been a month since she was born, don’t you think she deserves a name? So that night we named her Cheyenne.
We noticed She was different As Cheyenne got a little older she was having problems getting up and moving. I took her to a couple of local vets and after a bit of time we all decided she had a sever ear infection. This is what we treated her for.
What where we to do You have to remember she wasn’t even six weeks old yet. After a few more weeks it was decided that she had damaged a nerve behind her eye with this ear infection. This in turn messed up her balance and motor skills…Our son suggested to us to put her down (to sleep) we couldn’t do it. Cheyenne was our baby! So we plugged along helping her get up and move around.

Cheyenne hops like a rabbit She finally started to get the hang of “hopping” I suspect you would call it. She moves around kind of like a rabbit. She does a lot of circles to get some where some times. You might think she is ignoring you but she isn’t, some times her body doesn’t do what her brain is telling her to do. If she falls over we have to pick her up, to this day we really have to watch her.
Cheyenne is different but… We have four other dogs and they all love her. We have one in particular that really watches over her. If she falls he will stay by her side for the most part. They really love her, they do not care that she is a little different from all the rest. Cheyenne has no idea that she is different, she is happy, all the time! Talk about smart…it is scary! She will set when she is asked to (it is hard for her to stay she needs to move all the time) You tell her it is time for bed and she hops into the bed room in her spot and waits there for her treat.

Nap Time….
Cheyenne is a creature of habit. She has gotten into one habit that is kind of funny, I shower in the morning and my husband after work, she is right there to lay by the shower while we shower, if you shut the door on her, she can open it and come on in and wait for you. (My husband started give her drips of water on her head, she loves this) so now she waits for her puddles…. So we have given her a nick name of Puddle Head…

What a personality She loves to go for rides in the truck, you tell her “lets go for a ride” and out the door she goes and bounces or hops back and forth at the truck door waiting for a lift in. Oh, and we can’t forget the popcorn (this one is new) since it is winter and we are in the house a little early, we enjoy a bag of pop corn well of course we need to share with the kids (the dogs). What happens if we don’t pop the pop corn? Cheyenne will come and sit at my feet and stare at me then go to the kitchen by the microwave look at it and come back and stare at me again. (all of this in a round about way – she needs to do her circles) We get the message though and pop up some pop corn. She is so funny….we love her…

Cheyenne and her Pups
Cheyenne and Mother Hood Last Fall she gave birth to puppy’s. This was not suppose to happen, but we where at a family branding and I had left her in the yard at the house (unfortunately we don’t dare take her with when we ride or work cattle.) any way long story short one of the male border collies of one of our friends figured out how to get in the yard with her. The rest is history…..

We where spooked that she would die giving birth, but she didn’t, she had six pups and we saved two of them, believe it or not she raised both of them just fine…The puppy’s soon learned (with in a couple days) to come to her when she had fell over, it is such a miracle how they functioned as a family…truly amazing….we don’t dare spay her, we are afraid that she would die, so we just need to watch her a little closer….
It has been  two years+ since her birth, and to this day Cheyenne is doing great! Sometimes we get people who ask us if we still have the retarded dog. I simply say yes we still have Cheyenne and she isn’t retarded (by no means) she is a miracle and she is just our little off heeler….
Something to think about you know I haven’t found another dog that dislikes her, other dogs don’t seem to think she has a problem, they just play like any other dog. Our dogs are learning how to play with her without her falling over, oh, she still falls, but there are days when they play all day long and she never falls over…she don’t move like a normal dog, and she never well, but that is alright,   she isn’t  any different for any other.

Gives you a little something to think about hey….

I realized I hadn’t updated anything about Cheyenne as of late…so I thought I would give you a little update.  Cheyenne is still doing great.  I take her for walks about every other day, daily walks are to much on her, she gets tired.  I think this is from the way she travels, her hoping motion.

She has developed a couple new habits, in our house hold no one gets away with have a chip or snake alone…Cheyenne has very good hearing!  Open a package of chips, a box of crackers, here she come on the run – you aren’t having a snake with out her!

We have been taking care of Trixy (Cheyenne’s mom) for the last several months.  Here is something she don’t like ( and it is about the only thing she don’t like) and that is her MOM!  One morning Cheyenne accidentally bumped into her they had a little growling match, from that day on she has hated her mom!  Talk about a fight, Cheyenne very well defends herself, even when she is on her side.  We are not sure why there is this hate toward each other,  out theory is the fact that neither one of them or spade, and they both want to be dominate may play into this.  Not sure though….So we have the added of chore of keeping them separate so we have no fighting….

Our son has since been able to take Trixy home with him, so we don’t have this issue anymore, only when we baby sit Trixy…I am not sure these to will ever learn to like each other.

All and all Cheyenne is doing great.  She still loves the snow, but I think she is getting excited for spring…She loves to be outside, but she gets cold easy, so I am sure Spring is on her mind.

I recived this email from my friend the other day, they auther to this is unknown but I sure thought it was cute and all so TRUE!

Ok, who has been peeking in my house? This is exactly

how things are around here.

This truly has a greater meaning to some…  Enjoy Woof, Meow, Cheep…

If I Didn’t Have a Dog or Cat……

I could walk around the yard barefoot in safety.

My house could be carpeted instead of tiled and laminated.

All flat surfaces, clothing, furniture, and cars would be free of hair.

When the doorbell rings, it wouldn’t sound like a kennel and I could get to the door without wading through furry bodies who Beat me there.

I could sit on the couch and my bed the way I wanted, without taking into consideration how much space several fur bodies would need to get comfortable.

I would have money and no guilt to go on a real vacation.
I would not be on a first-name basis with
my veterinarian, as I put their yet unborn grandkids through college.

The most used words in my vocabulary would not be: out, sit, down, come, no, stay, & leave it ALONE.

My house would not be cordoned off into zones with baby gates or barriers.

I would not talk ‘baby talk’. ‘Eat your din din’. ‘Yummy yummy for the tummy’..
My house would not look like a day care center, toys everywhere
.

My pockets would not contain things like poop bags, treats and an extra leash.

I would no longer have to spell the words B-A-L-L,, W-A-L-K,, T-R-E-A-T,, O-U-T,, G-O,, R-I-D-E,, C-O-O-K-I-E
I would not have as many leaves INSIDE my house as outside.

I would not look strangely at people who think having ONE dog/cat ties them down too much.

I’d look forward to spring and the rainy season instead of dreading ‘mud’ season.

I would not have to answer the question” Why do you have so many animals?”  from people who will never have the joy in their lives of knowing they are loved unconditionally by someone as close to an angel as they will ever get.

How EMPTY my life would be!!!

The whole food thing just does not go away.

What is best to feed your dog or cat?

Dry Kibble?

Quality ‘Natural’ Kibble?

Canned?  or Home Diets?

There are just as many opinions out there..

I would hazard a guess that most of you have heard
about the ‘risks’ of feeding a Home Diet..

“it IS NOT balanced”…

But What about the risks of commercial pet food?
Here is what Dr John Heinerman wrote in
Natural Pet Cures:

Those of us who are intimately acquainted with what goes
into commercial pet foods have no problem discerning where
a good majority of liver disorders originate.

In their January 1998 newsletter, Love of Animals, Dr. Bob
Goldstein and his wife, Susan, featured an interesting article
entitled, “The Truth About Canned Dog and Cat Foods.”

They note that many so-called “naturally preserved” pet foods
contain meat by-products that usually come “from diseased
cows or sick chickens.” “These are terrible foods” they
warn their readers.

And the fact that they contain chemical preservatives (to keep
the high fat content from going rancid) and artificial coloring
agents and dyes (for eye appeal of pet owners), not to mention
appetite stimulants (salt, sugar, glucose, sucrose, fructose,
phosphoric acid) only makes their impact upon the average animal
liver that much more deadly.

Clearly there are risks to your pet’s
health with just relying on commercial pet food as a source
of nutrition.

Can you imagine eating Dry/Canned prepared food
your entire life and remaining healthy?

There are KEY nutrients, such as antioxidants and
flavonoids in fruits and vegetables, that prevent
diseases, such as cancer- you just can’t get these
in a package.

SO feed your dog or cat MORE than just dry kibble.

And to give them that added degree of safety, I advise a daily
dose of my Supplement.

It is what I am using for my Dogs Max and Chuck:

“Make
Sure You Check Out This
New Dog Training Course
!”

I’ve just finished reading the step-by-step guide
considered by many to be the Dog training BIBLE

“The Hands Off Dog Training Formula”…

And I have to tell you I’m completely blown away by
the sheer volume of dog training information Chet Womach has managed
to pack into it!

“The Hands Off Dog Training Formula” reveals the *exact*
step-by-step formula anyone can use to overcome their dog’s behavior
problems using ‘positive’ training techniques… no yelling,
hitting, shocking or jerking on leashes.

And it’s hot off the presses after being updated for 2007 with
the very latest cutting-edge strategies for dog training!

In 3 hour long audio lessons, 2 hours of live puppy
training footage and over 55+ pages of step-by-step guides
,
this system is packed FULL of tips for:

  • Peeing and pooping in the house
  • Out-of-control barking and whining
  • Nipping, biting, and growling
  • Jumping on strangers and house guests
  • Pulling on the leash during walks
  • Being afraid of new people and strange
    objects
  • Chasing small animals or children
  • Refusing to “come” when called
  • Ignoring basic obedience commands like “sit”
  • Destructive habits like chewing and digging
  • Suffering from severe separation anxiety
  • Constantly begging for food at the table

… plus tons more!

And best of all, you’ll do it all
WITHOUT ever hitting your
dog, yelling, or using
nasty training devices

(which I personally think are abusive!) like electric shock
collars, prong collars, or choke collars.

Instead, you’ll learn how to
win your dog’s obedience, loyalty, and RESPECT
using a series of training techniques that will appeal to his
natural canine instincts… and have him dancing to
eagerly obey your slightest command.

I’m really impressed by the combination of basic AND
advanced dog training strategies
Chet has poured into
“The Hands Off Dog Training Formula”

… So if you’re interested in fixing your dog’s behavior
problems I recommend picking up a copy of Chet Womach’s
“Hands Off Dog Training Formula”

His system will show you how to train stuff like:
